Artist Statement
Insecurity built the framework for my mind on how to handle relationships and personal development. Growing up in an environment that fueled my insecurity, I found solace in painting. This medium became a way to help undo trauma and give a better understanding of my problems and allow myself to be more vulnerable. My work has taught me that instability can fuel creativity, and that vulnerability can be a source of strength. I paint self-portraits in positions that makes myself vulnerable to the viewer and to my own mind. These self-portraits act as a mirror to provide clarity about myself and my interactions. By including other figures in my compositions, I explore how external relationships shape my sense of security and self-worth. The fact that I struggle with vulnerability contributes to the destruction of these relationships. These paintings work to reveal how deep my issues are. When I cannot find who I want to be, I find artist who discuss these themes helps myself better build my work.
