Insecurity, for me, is not just a personal experience but a universal human condition. Growing up in an environment that fueled my insecurity, I found solace in painting. This medium became a way to help undo trauma and give a better understanding of my problems. My work has taught me that instability can fuel creativity, and that vulnerability can be a source of strength. I paint self-portraits in positions that makes myself vulnerable to the viewer and to my own mind. My paintings often include other figures to discuss the interplay others have on my security. With the need to be secure, comes the need to be validated. Constantly seeking validation from others and from myself, I constantly find myself wanting more. This series is how I want to confront what I want out of myself. I hope to show that insecurity is not something to fear but a concept to explore in order for security.
